Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has sparked controversy by recruiting 500 individuals to join his militia gang, citing police inaction against Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati.

According to Barasa, he was roughed up in Kibra on Thursday by elements incited by Arati, who was captured on camera telling MPs, including Barasa, that he could eject them from DC Grounds polling centre during the by-election won by ODM candidate Imran Okoth.

Barasa claims that the DCI and the National Police Service have not taken any action against Arati and Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, leading him to hire more security personnel.

Barasa's recruitment drive has sparked concerns, with the MP stating that he is looking for individuals with a minimum of a KCPE certificate, ex-military and GSU officers, and those with a certificate of good conduct will be disqualified.

Interested applicants are asked to drop their applications at the Continental House, with a mobile number left for contact purposes.

Barasa's decision to form a militia gang has been met with criticism, with many questioning the MP's motives and the implications of his actions.

Since the @DCI_Kenya, @DPPS_KE and @IG_NPS have remained mum over the violence meted against me by @SimbaArati and the international slayqueen @Hon_FatumaGedi, this inaction represents a vote of confidence to the goonism by @InteriorKE. — Didmus Barasa – OGW (@DidmusWaBarasa) November 9, 2019
