On Saturday, Shujaa made history by becoming the second Kenyan team to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, joining the Kenya Lionesses in the process.
The team's qualification came after a comprehensive 31-0 win over Uganda Cranes in the final of the Africa Cup in South Africa.
Shujaa's captain, Andrew Amonde, led the charge from the onset, bulldozing his way to the try line with two defenders in tow. Amonde's centre post try was converted by Daniel Taabu, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
Shujaa's second try came off a counter attack deep in their own half, with classical support play between Alvin Otieno, Vincent Onyala, Johnstone Olindi, and Daniel Taabu resulting in Taabu dotting down under the posts. Taabu added the conversion for a 14-0 half-time lead.
Before being substituted, Amonde was at the core of Shujaa's third try, wrecking his way past his defenders before setting up Vice Captain Jeffrey Oluoch to land the third try. Taabu's neat conversion brought the scores to 21-0.
Shujaa starved their opponents of the ball throughout the match, maximizing on the opportunities by converting possession into points.
Billy Odhiambo was next on the scoresheet, dancing past his defenders and weaving his way down the pitch before setting up Oscar Dennis to land his first of two tries in the last minutes of the match.
Shujaa's path to the final saw them defeat Madagascar 40-14 in the semifinal stage, while Uganda Cranes beat Zimbabwe Sables 21-12. Sables, who finished third, will join Uganda in the Olympics Repechage in June next year.
