On a thrilling Saturday, Western Bulls centre Derrick Ashiundu stole the show with a hat-trick of tries, leading his team to a stunning 21-19 victory over Kenya Harlequin in a Kenya Cup rugby league duel at RFUEA.

Published on November 9, 2019, this match was part of Match Day Three in the Kenya Cup league.

However, the defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), 2016 winners Kabras Sugar, and Homeboyz maintained their unbeaten league run in the same match day.

Impala Saracens and high-flying Menengai Oilers, on the other hand, saw their unbeaten run come to an end.

At Ruaraka, KCB's forwards Nick Ongeri and Davis Chenge, along with outside centre Peter Kilonzo, scored tries to help their team dismantle visiting Nakuru 45-13.

Geoffrey Okatch scored a hat-trick of tries, while Kilonzo landed a brace of tries for KCB.

Homeboyz silenced touring Menengai Oilers 25-20, with the side from Great Rift claiming a bonus point for not losing by more than seven points.

Western Bulls' backs Iddi Kakai, Patrice Agunda, and David Ambunya put Quins ahead 19-0 at the break, but Ashiundu single-handedly destroyed Quins to give his team their first victory ever against the Ngong Road-based lads.

Quins suffered their third consecutive defeat, having previously lost to Homeboyz and KCB 26-13 and 32-20 respectively.

Western Bulls coach Bramwel Shikanda said, "It's such a great feeling to win in Nairobi and it's our plan to uphold that form. Our main target is to stay in Kenya Cup this season."

Quins coach Dominique Habimana said, "The players decided to go off the structures in the second half to make things easy for Western Bulls. We really need to rethink about what we want this season and come back strongly."
