On Saturday, 9 November 2019, a group of elders from Kaya Kinondo in Msambweni, Kwale County, conducted special prayers to protect Nairobi City County Governor Mike Sonko from external woes.

According to the elders, Sonko is being hounded and facing a lot of challenges currently because people are jealous of him. The elders threatened to curse anyone who brings Sonko down and interferes with his political career.

The Mijikenda Council of Kaya Elders chairperson, Abdalla Mnyenze, stated, “Governor Sonko is our son. We raised him here in Kwale. We protect our children. That is why we will curse anyone who tries to harm our son.”

The elders claimed that tycoons who had been benefiting from corrupt deals in the Nairobi County Government in the previous regime are now suffering because Sonko has closed the loopholes.

Patron Julius Saha of the Mijikenda Council of Kaya Elders said people are fighting Sonko because Sonko has blown the whistle on many corrupt deals in Nairobi County and they are afraid of him because they do not know what Sonko has in store for them.
