Published on November 9, 2019, a video by the Kenyan artist Ethic, titled Tarimbo, has been removed from YouTube for violating the platform's nudity and sexual content policy.
The song, which gained massive popularity in Kenya, had gathered over 800,000 views before its deletion. Critics, including the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua, condemned the video's lyrics, which they interpreted as encouraging sexual assault and objectifying women.
Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, who was one of the first critics of the video, celebrated its deletion on Twitter, thanking Google for supporting the efforts to clean the digital space and make it safe for children.
He also vowed to take action against other content that he deemed explicit, including the popular show 10/10 on Citizen's TV, stating that 'such filth' would soon be off the air.
