Published on November 9, 2019, the Ministry of Lands has agreed to amend the Gazette Notice that declared Isiolo County as an adjudication area.

According to Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney, the Ministry will revise the Gazette Notice to specify the settlement areas where the legal notice will apply.

CS Karoney stated that the schedule of the settlement areas will be compiled by the County Government and formally submitted to the Cabinet Secretary by Friday, November 15, 2019.

The move comes after Isiolo County leaders, led by Governor Mohammed Kuti, raised concerns about the implications of the Gazette Notice, arguing that it would open room for irregular allocation of land to unscrupulous individuals.

The local leaders further pointed out that the notice would deprive communities living in Isiolo of their land, and that the land in the county would be allocated to individuals.

However, CS Karoney assured that the ongoing survey and demarcation of Isiolo will not be interrupted.

The land adjudication process involves determining and recording of rights and interests of individuals residing on registered Community Land for the purpose of facilitating the registration of titles.
