President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto are expected to visit Murang'a on the same day, sparking speculation of a rift between the two leaders ahead of the 2022 elections.
According to sources, the President will attend a church service in Kenol, Maragua constituency, while the Deputy President will attend a fundraiser in Kandara constituency.
Senator Irungu Kang'ata confirmed that the President personally communicated with him on Wednesday to confirm the visit, stating that he had invited the President earlier this year while they were in State House with Bishop Julius Karanu.
"We talked with the President on phone and he has reassured me that he will be in Murang'a. I invited the President earlier this year while we were in State House with Bishop Karanu," Senator Kang'ata said.
Other leaders who have confirmed the President's visit include Muranga Governor Mwangi wa Iria and ACK Mt Kenya South Diocese Bishop Julius Karanu.
However, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena and Director of Communications in the DP's office, David Mugonyi, avoided the question on whether the duo will be in Murang'a.
The move by the top Jubilee leaders to visit Murang'a separately will likely raise eyebrows and divide the region's legislators further.
