On November 9, 2019, a heated incident unfolded at DC Grounds polling station in Kibra constituency during a voting exercise in the Kibra by-election.
Didmus Barasa, the Kimilili MP, was allegedly roughed up by a group of youths believed to be supporters of ODM over voter bribery allegations.
However, Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has come out to deny any wrongdoing, claiming he saved Barasa's life from the angry youths.
"I saved his (Barasa's) life and that of Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa because they could have been manhandled by residents who were guarding against voter bribery," Arati explained in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke.
Arati warned that he will employ similar tactics against politicians who engage in electoral malpractice, emphasizing that the electorate must be allowed to make their own decisions.
"Those threatening him that he should not set foot in Bungoma will be surprised. My mother comes from Bungoma and I will visit. If voter bribery would happen in Bungoma or Sugoi I would still embrace similar reasonable way to stop the malpractice. Voter bribery is not allowed anywhere," he said.
