On Saturday, Lakers Hockey Club secured a crucial 2-0 win over Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at City Park, propelling them to third place in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women Premier League standings.

Edna Bonyo opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, and captain Linah Baraza sealed the win with a goal in the 13th minute, handing Austine Tuju his fourth win of the season.

The victory lifted the lakeside team to joint third in the standings with 18 points, matching Strathmore University's tally but with a superior goal difference.

Speaking after the win, Lakers head coach Austine Tuju expressed confidence in his team's ability to face league leaders Blazers, formerly Telkom, saying, 'We are ready for Blazers. This win came at the right moment when we needed victory and I can promise that we will not go down easy. We know they have the experience but we have the energy and endurance.'

JKUAT, meanwhile, remained rooted at the bottom of the table with two points, extending head coach Sammy Oungo's winless run to 12 matches.

Oungo attributed the loss to a lack of concentration in the early minutes of the match, saying, 'We started the first quarter on a low and lack of concentration in the first ten minutes saw us concede two goals. Despite that I believe we can play better than today in our next match.'

Lakers will face defending champions Blazers on Sunday in the early morning kickoff.
