On November 8, 2019, Harambee Starlets drew 2-2 against Zambia's Shepolopolo at Kasarani Stadium in the first leg of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers.

Marthe Tembo's own goal canceled out Grace Chanda's opener before Corazone Aquino gave the Starlets the lead in the second half. However, Rachael Kundananji's equalizer on restart denied Kenya a win.

With the result, the Starlets need a high-scoring draw or a win in Lusaka to progress to the final qualifying round. The winner on aggregate will face either Cameroon or Cote d'Ivoire in the final round, with the victors directly qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in Japan.

Starlets coach David Ouma remains optimistic, stating, 'It is not yet over and I believe Zambia are still beatable. We are going there aware of their strengths.'

Zambia coach Bruce Mwape also believes the game is still wide open, despite having two away goals.
