On November 9, 2019, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) took action against five maize flour brands found to contain excessive levels of aflatoxin.

The affected brands include Dola by Kitui Four Mills, Kifaru by Alpha Grain Limited, Starehe by Pan African Grain Millers, 210 Two Ten by Kenblest Limited, and Jembe by Kensal Rise Limited.

KEBS announced the suspension of the companies' permits in a statement, instructing the manufacturers to discontinue production and sales of the affected products.

According to KEBS, the suspension was a result of market surveillance and multiple reports from the public.

Earlier in the week, KEBS had suspended the licenses of seven peanut butter makers whose products also contained high levels of aflatoxins.
