On November 9, 2019, the 16th edition of the Ndakaini Half Marathon took place in Muranga County, with George Nyagetari and Rebecca Wanjiru claiming the top spots.
The event saw a low turnout of elite athletes, attributed to the withdrawal of the main sponsor and the subsequent lack of prize money.
Nyagetari, a 37-year-old from Ngong, clocked 1:10.32 in the men's 21km race, beating Isaac Llande's time of 1:11.28 and Washington Muigai's 1:12.28.
Wanjiru, a 35-year-old from Nyandarua County, took the women's title with a time of 1:45.28, followed by Emmaculate Wanjiru in 1:56.58 and Sarah Wawa in 1:59.05.
Other winners included Peter Wahome in the men's 10km race and Evalyne Kamau in the women's 10km event.
Despite the challenges faced by the organizers, Ndakaini Environmental Conservation Association (NDEKA) Sports Chairman James Mukuna expressed optimism about securing a sponsor for the next edition.
