Kenya: Thousands of Counterfeit Set Books Seized in Namanga

On November 9, 2019, the Anti-Counterfeit Authority made a significant seizure of counterfeit goods in Namanga, a border town between Kenya and Tanzania.

The agency intercepted a large consignment of secondary school books, shoes, and other goods being smuggled into Kenya.

According to Mr. Abdi Hussein, an official at the Anti-Counterfeit Authority, the goods were valued at Sh22,115,880 and were seized in buses at Namanga.

The seized books included:

  • The Pearl, published by New Longman Literature - 8,736 copies
  • The Inheritance, published by Longhorn - 6,720 copies
  • A Doll's House, published by the East Africa Educational Publisher - 16,200 copies
  • Memories We Lost, published by Moran - 4,800 copies

The goods also included assorted shoes from brands like Nike, Gucci, Fila, and Adidas, as well as 1,800 pieces of imperial leather soaps and 1,860 pieces of door locks.
