On November 9, 2019, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni welcomed Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi to Kampala for a two-day summit, marking a significant step in improving the two countries' relations.
The visit, which was at the invitation of President Museveni, saw President Tshisekedi accompanied by 117 delegates from various ministries and businessmen.
According to a statement from Uganda's Foreign Affairs ministry, the two countries have concluded several cooperation frameworks, including agreements in health, peace and security, energy and mineral development, socio-economic infrastructure, and trade and investment.
The summit aimed to increase the volume of trade between the two countries, with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics estimating the informal trade volume to be around $531 million by July 2019.
Joint oil exploration was also on the agenda, as the two countries share the Albertine graben around Lake Albert, which is believed to have oil deposits.
Uganda and DRC share a border, with the western region of DRC being troubled by militia groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
