Published on November 9, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has weighed in on the recent Kibra by-election, stating that Deputy President William Ruto's loss is a clear indication of his impending downfall in politics.
Waiguru pointed out that Ruto's significant financial investment in the Kibra campaign, estimated to be over a billion shillings, ultimately yielded no results, while the handshake candidate, who spent less than five million shillings, emerged victorious.
“Ruto poured over a billion shillings in Kibra and lost while the handshake candidate spent less than five million shillings and still won, that gives you a sign,” she noted.
Waiguru further emphasized that Ruto's decision to field McDonald Mariga in the Kibra race was a desperate attempt to undermine the handshake, but ultimately proved unsuccessful.
“The handshake has been more about uniting the country so that development can find a space to be effected but some forces within the government have been against it, and you can see how the Kibra people humbled them,” Waiguru asserted.
Waiguru's comments come as a warning to Ruto's supporters, urging them to read the political signs and make the right decisions before it's too late.
