On November 9, 2019, two police officers were ambushed and killed while on patrol near the Saika-Kayole Bridge in Nairobi.
The officers, based at the Obama police post, were attacked at around 4am, according to the police.
“One of the officers was shot in the head and his colleague in the neck,” Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo told the Saturday Standard.
The attackers stole two firearms, including an AK47 loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and a Jericho pistol, as well as mobile phones and other personal items from the slain officers.
Five spent cartridges were recovered from the scene and will be subjected to ballistic analysis.
Crime has been on the rise in the Kayole area, with police officers attached to the station also linked to crime.
Just last month, two police officers were arrested and charged in court over a Sh6 million robbery incident in Eastleigh.
