On October 19, 2018, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o received an international award that has since sparked outrage after it emerged that it was fake and not linked to the United Nations.
The award, which was allegedly given by the United Nations, had a glaring typo, with 'Kisumu' misspelled as 'Kismumu'. This has led many to believe that the award is fake.
The governor's press team took to social media to celebrate the award, but later realized that it was fake and massively misspelled.
Civil society and locals are now demanding a massive shakeup to the team that is embarrassing the county boss and the county at large.
Prof. Nyongo received the 'fake' award for Excellence in Leadership Award from United Nations Project one.
