Kenya's largest e-commerce platform, Jumia, kicked off its annual Black Friday sale on November 9th, 2019, at 11:59pm. The three-week event has attracted tens of thousands of customers, who are taking advantage of discounts of up to 90 per cent on over 10 million products listed on the site.

According to Jumia Kenya's chief executive officer, Sam Chappatte, the 2019 Black Friday edition started off on an exciting note. 'Customers from all over the country logged on to our site at midnight to join us for the launch of Black Friday 2019. With hundreds of orders made in the first minutes, from all over the country, it was an exciting moment,' he said.

During the first hour of the sale, Jumia received over 100 orders in the first minute, with 33 of them being televisions. The company also reported that 75 per cent of traffic came from the Jumia App, with the rest split between Mobile Web and Desktop.

The best-selling products on the first day of the sale were Kabras 2kg sugar, which retailed at Ksh. 50, followed by 2kg Unga at Ksh. 72, Hand washing powder, and Television Sets.
