The Nairobi Diamond 10km road race is set to return on November 30, 2019, after a five-year absence, with organisers announcing the event's revival.
First held in 2014, the race will take place in the evening, starting at 2pm, and will be run around the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi, with the start and end point at the iconic Uhuru Park.
According to Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi branch chairman Barnaba Korir, the event has already generated interest from foreign athletes from Uganda and Tanzania.
"We are happy as AK to work with Right-Here Golazo in order to make this event a success because it is geared towards a noble course of not only nurturing talent but also promote sports in our capital city. Already we have athletes from outside the country who have expressed interest to compete on the event," said Korir.
The event, organised by Belgian firm Right Here-Golazo in partnership with Athletics Kenya, will feature races for elite athletes, Masters, and wheelchair competitors.
Prize money will be awarded to the winners, with top athletes in the elite race set to pocket Sh 200,000, while the first and second runners-up will take home Sh100,000 and Sh50,000 respectively.
Registration for the event is open online at www.diamond10kseries.com or at Athletics Kenya headquarters at Riadha House for a fee of Sh1000.
