On November 8, 2019, the Department of Children in Homa Bay County received Sh2.7 million from the Presidential Bursary Fund to support the education of orphans and vulnerable children.

The funds will be distributed to more than 800 needy and vulnerable students in secondary schools in the county, with each student set to receive a minimum of Sh10,000 and a maximum of Sh30,000 per year based on their needs.

According to Homa Bay County Director of Children Peter Kutere, the selected students will be assessed to determine the amount of money given to each student, with the aim of retaining them in school.

Additionally, the county is still receiving applications from students who need financial support, with those who sat for KCPE 2018 and got 250 marks and above eligible to apply for the 2019 Presidential Bursary Funds.

Other requirements for applicants include a birth certificate, parents' death certificates, and a calling letter.

Furthermore, elderly persons in the county can expect to receive their monthly stipend arrears of four months, with each senior citizen set to receive Sh8,000 from July to October.
