On November 8, 2019, a heated debate erupted in the political arena after Homa Bay County women representative Glady Wanga accused Jubilee politicians, particularly those from the Tanga Tanga group, of using millions of shillings to influence the Kibra by-election.

According to Wanga, who is a staunch member of the ODM party, the Tanga Tanga group spent more than KSh 200 million on the Kibra campaigns.

"I have discovered that over the past two months, Tanga Tanga leaders have used KSh 200 million to fund their Kibra campaigns, with each vote costing KSh 18,000, a clear case of vote buying," Wanga stated.

Wanga's allegations came just hours after Nandi Hills MP Peter Keter claimed that the Tanga Tanga group spent KSh 1.2 billion on the Kibra by-election.

Keter is known to be a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.
