Manchester City's top-of-the-table clash against Premier League leaders Liverpool has taken a significant hit with the news that goalkeeper Ederson will be missing due to injury.
Ederson suffered a muscular problem during Manchester City's 1-1 Champions League draw against Atalanta on Wednesday and was forced to come off at half-time.
"He's not able to play," said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola at his pre-match press conference.
With Ederson out, Claudio Bravo will likely take his place in goal, a move that may raise concerns given Bravo's error-strewn first season in England back in 2016/17.
However, Guardiola is confident in Bravo's abilities, stating, "We have another top 'keeper. We won the Carabao (League) Cup and FA Cup thanks to Claudio. He's an exceptional 'keeper. He won a lot of games with his national team Chile too, so (I have) no doubts."
