On November 3, 2019, McDonald's announced the termination of its CEO Steve Easterbrook's contract due to a consensual relationship with an employee, which breached the company's policy.

Easterbrook acknowledged his mistake in an email to employees, stating, 'This was a mistake. Given the values of the company, I agree with the board that it is time to move on.'

While office romances are often discouraged, a survey by Vault.com found that 58% of employees have engaged in a romantic relationship with a colleague, and one in five employees have cheated on their partners with a colleague.

Human resource experts advise that employees make their relationships known to avoid unprofessionalism and office gossip, which can lead to bad blood among colleagues.
