On November 7, 2019, Metipsoo Assistant Chief Ezekiel Kibor was attacked by a suspected illicit alcohol brewer in Elgeyo Marakwet. The incident occurred during a morning crackdown on illicit brews.

According to Kibor, he had gone to the brewer's house at around 6 am after receiving reports that the brewer had chased away a village elder who had warned him about his illicit trade. Upon arrival, Kibor found the suspect brewing liquor and was subsequently attacked with a machete.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Kibor explained that when he tried to snatch the machete from the assailant, someone else came from behind and hit him. The assistant chief stated that his assailant is notorious in the area for brewing illicit liquor.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner Ahmed Omar confirmed that police have launched a manhunt for the suspect and his accomplice, believed to be his brother. Omar urged government officials to seek police protection during such crackdowns, stating that it was wrong for Kibor to go to the brewer's house without police accompaniment.
