Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is no longer in the running to become the next Bayern Munich manager, after talks between Wenger and the German club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge broke down.
The 70-year-old Wenger was open to taking charge at the Allianz Arena, but only on a permanent basis, whereas Bayern were keen on him only until the end of the season.
Wenger had spoken to Rummenigge about the post, but the two parties were unable to come to an agreement over the terms of his potential appointment.
Bayern sacked Niko Kovac last weekend, after a 5-1 thrashing by Eintracht Frankfurt, and it is unclear who will take charge of the team until the end of the season.
Wenger still has an offer from FIFA to be their next technical director on the table, and Bayern may turn to Ajax boss Eric ten Hag as a permanent replacement next summer.
Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has also weighed in on Wenger's potential return to management, saying that he is now too old to return to the dugout.
