On November 8, 2019, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), congratulated Imran Okoth on his win in the Kibra by-election.
Okoth, the ODM candidate, secured 24,636 votes, while his closest rival, Mariga, garnered 11,230 votes.
The by-election was a closely contested and highly anticipated event, with the outcome seen as a test of Raila's influence in the Kibra constituency.
Despite the intense competition, Okoth emerged victorious, and Raila was quick to congratulate him on his win.
"Hongera na heri njema wakati ambapo unaanza kazi kuwahudumia wakazi wa Kibra," Raila said in a statement.
However, the by-election was not without controversy, with reports of violence and intimidation during the voting process.
Deputy President William Ruto, who had been backing Mariga's campaign, acknowledged the outcome but suggested that the results may have been influenced by the chaos and violence that marred the election.
"Pongezi Benard Okoth kwa Kibra. Hongera Mariga, kikosi cha Jubilee na wafuasi wote kwa kutisha bedroom na kustahimili fujo," Ruto said in a statement.
