On November 8, 2019, a court in Nyeri ruled in favor of Kennedy Muriuki, a former personal assistant to Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri, awarding him Sh240,000 for unlawful dismissal.

According to the court, Muriuki was employed on September 8, 2017, and his duties included maintaining the deputy governor's diary, handling correspondence and enquiries, and managing appointments and other office affairs.

However, the Public Service Board terminated Muriuki's employment effective March 13, 2018, alleging that he had solicited money from contractors to secure county tenders.

Muriuki testified that his dismissal was unlawful and unreasonable because he was not summoned by a disciplinary committee to respond to the allegations.

The court found that the law was flouted and Muriuki was entitled to a declaration that his sacking was illegal and unfair, as well as compensation for three months' salary amounting to Sh198,270 and costs of the suit amounting to Sh45,000.
