Published on November 8, 2019, a yoga class at Center for Yoga in Michigan sparked controversy over the instructor's hands-on adjustments.

Some adjustments involved verbal cues, such as instructing students to move their arms or rotate their shoulders. Others were more subtle, like placing a palm on a student's head to suggest elongating their spine.

However, some students and observers felt uncomfortable with the more intimate adjustments, which included wrapping an arm around a student's torso and placing a hand between their breast and collarbone.

One such adjustment, referred to as the 'Diaper Change,' involved the instructor kneeling under a student's lower back and having their bottom rest on his lap. The instructor then opened the student's legs and straddled them around himself, recommending rubbing their forearms and shoulders.

When asked if he had ever asked permission before doing this adjustment, the instructor encouraged a yoga teacher and personal trainer, Catherine Derrow, to bring her question to the group.
