Between October 28 and November 8, 2019, ten Kenyan university students will embark on a two-week Huawei training session in China. The students, in their 3rd, 4th, and 5th year of study, were selected from universities of Machakos, Multi-Media, South Eastern Kenya, Maseno, Chuka, Dedan Kimathi, and Technical University.

According to a press statement, the selection criterion was rigorous, ensuring that only the best-performing interns were picked. The students will undergo training in Mandarin and Chinese culture at Beijing Language and Culture University (BCLU) and learn about 4G, 5G, AI, and Cloud computing at Huawei University.

During their stay in China, the students will also visit the state-of-the-art Huawei labs in Shenzhen and participate in an extensive city tour, visiting the Great Wall of China, the Summer Palace, and the Forbidden City. This will give them an authentic experience of Chinese history and culture.

Among the selected students is Irvine Lumumba, a Multimedia University student and a Huawei Campus Ambassador. He expressed his delight at getting a chance to learn firsthand about cutting-edge technology. The partnership between Huawei and Safaricom has seen one of the Blaze beneficiaries, Peter Mwangi, nominated to take part in the internship program.

Since its inception in 2014, the Seeds for the Future program has seen 125 students benefit from the program, with 47 traveling to China for training.
