Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been hospitalized with malaria, according to his communications director Richard Chacha.
Chacha revealed that Joho was taken ill five days ago and was admitted to Mombasa Hospital after complaining of a severe headache.
Doctors at the hospital established that Joho was suffering from malaria and recommended that he remain in hospital for further checkup.
Chacha told Nairobi News that Joho is expected to be discharged today after showing progress.
During a visit from former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Joho expressed confidence that he would be discharged from hospital.
"I have been in hospital for 5 days now but what has given me strength today is the win of Imran Okoth in the Kibra election," Joho said.
