November 8, 2019, marked a somber day for the family and friends of Norah Jelagat, a bright and ambitious Kenyan student who left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Norah's academic prowess was evident when she emerged as the top student in the 2013 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Her exceptional talent earned her a spot at Stanford University, where she traveled to pursue her higher education.
However, Norah's time at Stanford was cut short when she tragically passed away. A video shared on social media captures her poignant words, 'Before Stanford, I had never gone out of Kenyan. People are nice but I miss Kenya, the food, the people. There is a certain feeling you get while in Kenya' like people are waiting for you. I want to get some experience here and use it when I go back to Kenya.'
Below are photos of Norah during happier times before her apparent suicide.
Below is the video, which was shot by a classmate of Norah as a project for his film-making class. This is the last footage before her demise.
