Black Friday, one of the world's biggest shopping festivals, kicked off in Kenya with e-commerce platform Jumia leading the charge. The company registered up to 3,000 orders in the first hour, a testament to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event.
Among the lucky customers who benefited from the first Black Friday flash sale were three individuals who each purchased a motorcycle for a mere Sh 100. The first Boda Boda customers to buy motorbikes from Car and General at Sh 100 were from Kajiado, Nairobi, and Mukuru Kwa Njenga.
Black Friday offers on Jumia are set to run until November 29th, with the company promising more crazy deals during the period. Some of the offers include goats and chickens going for Sh 1000 and Sh 100 respectively, as well as smartphone flash sales at Sh 100.
During the three weeks of Jumia Black Friday, customers will enjoy savings of up to 90% on some of the 10 million products listed on the site. The best-selling product was Kabras 2kg sugar, which was retailing at Sh 50, closely followed by 2kg Unga at Sh 72, hand washing powder, and Television sets.
Speaking to the press, Jumia Kenya CEO Sam Chappatte noted that the campaign started on an exciting note. "Customers from all over the country logged onto our site at midnight to join us for the launch of Blak Friday 2019. With 100s of orders in the first minutes, from all over the country, it was an exciting moment. There will be more great deals and daily surprises for everyone during the three weeks," he noted.
There will be flash sales every single day throughout the annual saving event, with Fridays being the biggest Jumia days as there will be 8 flash sales spread out through the day. The biggest flash day, dubbed the Mega flash sale, will happen every day at 9 am. Some flash sales will be done at Jumia pick-up stations to help Kenyans who do not own smartphones participate in the biggest save of the year.
This year's Black Friday is expected to be the most inclusive yet, following the reduction in delivery fees across the country and with delivery capacity increases, thanks to partnerships with Posta and Wells Fargo.
To get the most out of this Black Friday, customers are advised to download the Jumia App to access the best app-only deals, visit the Jumia site daily at 9 AM to check out the Deals of the Day, and visit Jumia's offline stores in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Kisumu for any inquiries or place their orders over the phone by calling 0711011011.
