Published on November 8, 2019, Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar has weighed in on the controversy surrounding rapper T.I's revelation that he takes his daughter annually for virginity tests.

Abubakar shared her own experiences, admitting that her father used to take her to different doctors regularly to confirm whether she was still a virgin when she was growing up.

While she acknowledged that she hated the practice, Abubakar noted that there was nothing wrong with parents subjecting their daughters to virginity tests.

"I don’t see anything wrong in checking if your daughter is still a virgin. I remember my dad taking me to see different doctors, just to be sure. He stopped after the 3 times. I hated him then a bit. But he is just a father trying to protect his stubborn daughter," she wrote.

Abubakar's position is not shared by critics who have condemned T.I for his actions, which include taking his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, for the examination since she was 16.

After T.I revealed his actions on his podcast, it was removed on Wednesday afternoon following the backlash.
