On Thursday, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho fell ill and visited Mombasa Hospital, where doctors recommended he be admitted for further check-ups.

According to his communications director Richard Chacha, Joho is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo visited Joho at the hospital on Friday, showing his support for the Mombasa County boss.

Before his hospitalization, Joho was among the first county bosses and ODM leaders to congratulate the newly elected Kibra MP Bernard Imran Okoth on his win.

"Congratulations Hon. Imran Okoth for the emphatic victory in the Kibra parliamentary by-election," Joho said in a message.

"This is a clear demonstration of maturity by Kibra electorate, who defied bribery and intimidation," he added.
