On November 8, 2019, a New York court was poised to deliver a verdict against Ibrahim Akasha, the son of notorious drug lord Ibrahim Akasha, for his involvement in a massive international drug trafficking operation.

The sentencing comes three months after Ibrahim's brother, Baktash, was handed a 25-year prison term for his role in the same operation.

According to court documents, Ibrahim has already confessed to multiple drug trafficking charges, including bribery of several Kenyan officials to evade justice.

During the sentencing hearing, Ibrahim, like his brother, pleaded for a lenient sentence, citing the harsh conditions he would face in prison.

The brothers were extradited to the US after being arrested in Mombasa in a joint operation by Kenyan and US authorities, who had been trying to bring them to justice for years.

Earlier in August, Baktash was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.
