On November 8, 2019, McDonald Mariga's bid to become the Member of Parliament for Kibra fell short, with Imran Okoth emerging victorious.

Mariga, who ran on a Jubilee ticket, garnered 11,230 votes, but his campaign was marred by several mistakes that may have cost him the seat.

One of the major blunders was running on a Jubilee ticket in a constituency that is considered ODM's stronghold.

As Raila Odinga noted, 'Kibra is ODM's bedroom,' making it a challenging task for Mariga to succeed.

Mariga's struggles to express himself in public also raised eyebrows, with many feeling that he would have been more relatable if he had stuck to Swahili or Sheng.

Moreover, his manifesto was seen as being written by someone else, which may have alienated potential voters.

Additionally, Mariga's decision to vie for the seat despite not having interacted with the people of Kibra enough to understand their struggles was also questioned.

Lastly, Mariga's decision to run despite not being a registered voter in the constituency was seen as a major misstep.
