On October 11, 2019, a Silverstone aircraft skidded off the runway at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, sparking a government investigation into the incident.

According to a preliminary report released by the Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia on November 8, 2019, the likely cause of the mishap was engine failure.

The report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) noted that while on ground roll, the left engine's 'interstate turbine temperature fluctuated' prompting the crew to abort take-off.

Unable to stop on the paved surface, the aircraft overran the runway and came to rest on soft ground, as per the report.

The government has also notified regulators in the Netherlands and the UK, as well as the International Civil Aviation Organization, as per international rules.

The Fokker 50 aircraft was just about to take off to the coastal city of Mombasa when the incident occurred.

Witnesses described the scene, saying the plane plunged into a thicket, hitting some trees and breaking part of its wing, before being grounded, tilting to one side.
