On November 8, 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) questioned Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa over alleged misappropriation of public funds.
According to the DCI, Jumwa's two children, Kalume Karisa and Selina Selume Sidi, are implicated in the multi-million scandal. They are listed as directors of Kaseru Construction Ltd, one of the companies through which suspicious transactions were made.
The company received a total of Sh64, 735, 504 from Kilifi County between March 2014 and August 2018. The funds were allegedly for payment of services rendered to the county through various tenders.
One of the listed transactions shows that Sh 9,495, 512.05 was sent to Kaseru Construction Ltd on May 11, 2017. After the payment was made, Aisha Jumwa coincidentally received Sh3 million, the DCI reports.
At the same time, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko allegedly received Sh3,000,000.
The DCI is also probing withdrawals totaling Sh46,100,509 from a Cooperative Bank account operated by Jumwa's son Karisa.
The account reportedly transferred Sh5,000,000 to Likoni MP Hamisi, Sh15,150,000 to Jumwa, and Sh40,685,000 to Jumwa's daughter Selina.
Additionally, the DCI is investigating a second company, Gadu Stores, run by Jumwa's son.
The company was registered on April 11, 2014, and allegedly contracted to supply ECD furniture to Kilifi County. The company's account at Equity Bank received Sh30,000,000 from Kilifi County, which was then allegedly wired Sh4,020,000 to Jumwa.
The DCI wants Aisha Jumwa and 10 others to be prosecuted for various offenses, including abuse of office, money laundering, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
