Pwani University Student Charged with Selling Digital Copies of The Standard

On diverse dates between September 9 and 15, 2019, a Pwani University student allegedly infringed the copyrights of The Standard newspaper.

Silvans Omondi, 23, an IT student at Pwani University, was charged with unlawfully making soft copies of The Standard with intent to defraud.

According to the charge sheet, Omondi falsely purported that the copies were issued by The Standard Group PLC.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Hestone Nyaga and denied the charges.

Omondi was released on a personal bond of Sh200,000 pending hearing of the case on March 12, 2020.
