Published on November 8, 2019, a day that would mark the beginning of a desperate cry for help from the people of northern Kenya.
The region has been plagued by a perennial problem of banditry, with scores of villagers being slaughtered in recent attacks.
According to Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed Ali, more than 500 heavily armed bandits attacked two villages, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
The people of northern Kenya are at the mercy of these hardcore criminals, who are armed with sophisticated weapons and have shown no regard for human life.
As Governor Ali noted, the people are tired of the rampant killings, but are at the mercy of the criminals.
Worsening the suffering of the people are intra-clan fights over grazing land and water points, forcing dozens of people to flee their homes.
It is time for the government to take action and deploy more personnel to beef up security in the region.
