On November 7, 2019, McDonald Mariga, a Jubilee aspirant in the Kibra Parliamentary by-election, made headlines when he conceded an early defeat to his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) competitor, Bernard Imran Okoth.

Mariga's gracious concession was evident in a video that went viral on social media, where he called Imran to congratulate him on the early lead.

‘Hello boss, this is Mariga, I have called to congratulate you. The race has been fair and I am ready to support you in whatever you need,' Mariga said in the phone call.

Imran, humbled by the gesture, accepted the early victory and agreed to work with Mariga, promising to move forward with every interested party for the good of their people.

‘I’m humbled to have received a congratulatory call from Mariga. That’s the spirit of politics. I promise to move forward with every interested party for the good of our people. God bless Kibra,' Imran posted on Twitter.
