On November 8, 2019, a devastating flood swept through parts of Kenya, claiming the lives of 29 people, including four children. The disaster was a stark reminder of the country's vulnerability to natural calamities.

While the government's response to the crisis was commendable, the impact of the flood will be felt for a long time. Many farmers lost their livestock, while others were left without homes or livelihoods.

However, it was President Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership that made all the difference. He ordered airlifts to deliver relief supplies to affected areas, despite the high cost. He also mobilized the military to help protect citizens from the floodwaters.

As the leader of the nation, Uhuru's priority was to ensure that no Kenyan was left without basic necessities like food, water, and medical supplies. He allocated all available resources to assist those affected, and his efforts were instrumental in addressing the long-term well-being of the citizens.

The international community also played a crucial role in assisting Kenyans in need. Partners like the Red Cross provided immediate assistance, helping to prevent disease and starvation among those affected.

Now, the biggest challenge will be rebuilding after the floods have subsided. Hundreds of people have been displaced, schools and health facilities destroyed, and much of the local infrastructure is in shambles.

But with Uhuru at the helm, there is reason to believe that the Kenyan people will be able to overcome this challenge. The president has a history of mobilizing the government to ensure that citizens can return to their lives as soon as possible.

As the saying goes, 'earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.' The lessons learned from the recent flooding are extensive, and they serve as a reminder of the importance of adequate resolve, forward planning, and strong leadership in the face of natural calamities.
