On November 7, 2019, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) disputed the Ministry's claims that they had received Sh94m from the Sports Fund.
The KRU chairman, Oduor Gangla, maintained that the federation had only received Sh3m, despite a document showing they had received Sh94,374,100 from the Sports, Arts and Social Development fund.
Gangla's statement came after a broadcast on Citizen TV, where the Sports PS, Amb. Kirimi Kaberia, discussed the utilization of Sports Fund, which has come under scrutiny.
PS Kaberia explained the step-by-step process from application to disbursement, stating that federations bring their applications to the commissioner of sports, sit with the sports council, analyze it, and then forward it to the fund.
However, the current system is set to undergo an overhaul, with the Ministry of Sports introducing a new process where federations will be required to provide their calendar of events and projected budgets by the end of the year.
The KRU chairman lamented that they had followed the exact same process, had a board approval, and still had no formal communication more than 100 days after approval on July 16.
