On November 4, Chief Justice David Maraga publicly expressed his frustration with the National Treasury's decision to cut the Judiciary's budget for the 2019/2020 financial year.
According to the Judiciary's chief registrar, Anne Amadi, the Treasury has since restored both the recurrent and development expenditure for the Judiciary.
Amadi confirmed the Treasury's decision in a letter dated November 6, which was supported by the Law Society of Kenya.
Chief Justice Maraga had claimed that certain government officials wanted to take control of the Judiciary by forcing him out of office before the end of 2019.
However, Maraga made it clear that he will not resign despite the frustrations from national government officials.
Earlier in June, the Treasury had capped the Judiciary's budget at KSh 17.3 billion, which was later reduced to KSh 14.5 billion when Parliament passed the Appropriation Act.
The development budget was further reduced to KSh 50 million from the initial 4 billion set aside.
