On November 3, police raids on illicit liquor dens in Embakasi, Nairobi, led to the arrest of several patrons, including the wife of David Ong'weno Nabwaya, at his chang'aa den.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday when Soweto Police Station commander Chief Inspector Wilson Kaguru led a team of officers to flush out revelers from illicit liquor dens in the Nduka monja area in Embakasi.
During the operation, the officers rounded up several patrons, including Nabwaya's wife, Wambui Ndung'u. However, while escorting them to the police lorry, the inebriated patrons became unruly and started pelting the officers with stones.
Police used live bullets to disperse the crowd and free themselves after the drunkards attempted to torch their vehicle.
On Tuesday, the officers returned to the area and arrested Nabwaya, who was allegedly found with two liters of petrol that he and his accomplices intended to use to burn down the police vehicle.
Nabwaya denied the charges before Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga and was released on a cash bail of Sh 15,000. The case will be mentioned on November 20 for fixing of hearing dates.
