Former President Daniel Moi has been discharged from Nairobi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for the past two weeks.
According to Lee Njiru, Moi's Press Secretary and official spokesman, the retired president was discharged on Thursday.
"The Moi family has expressed gratitude to all those who offered prayers and sent 'quick recovery' messages," Njiru stated.
Despite initial rumors that Moi was in critical condition, Njiru dismissed the claims, stating that the former president was "alert and conscious of his surroundings" during his hospital stay.
On March 8, 2018, Moi was flown to Israel for treatment of an "uncomfortable knee," and in January 2017, he underwent minor knee surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
As Kenya's second president, Moi took office following the death of founding President Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.
