First Lady Kenyatta Calls for Partnerships in Healthcare Delivery

On November 7, 2019, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta opened a specialized maternity theatre and neonatal unit at Kapkatet Hospital in Kericho County, marking a significant milestone in the country's healthcare delivery.

The facility, sponsored by the Andrew Wemyss Trust at a cost of Shs 200 million, boasts of state-of-the-art medical equipment, including 20 incubators and a recovery area with 20 cots to cater for babies delivered prematurely.

First Lady Kenyatta emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships between the national and county governments, as well as other stakeholders, in achieving universal health coverage, a key pillar of the Big 4 Agenda.

She urged mothers countrywide to enroll in the Linda Mama program offered through NHIF to benefit from extensive health packages.

Kericho Governor Prof Paul Chepkwony thanked First Lady Kenyatta for supporting the county's health sector through the Beyond Zero initiative, citing the reduction in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate from 5.7 percent to 2.8 percent since 2013.
