On November 7, 2019, a shocking incident occurred in Tharaka-Nithi County, where a 9-year-old Class Two boy from Mukuuni Primary School allegedly took his own life by hanging on a tree.
Morgan Mwenda, the deceased, was left at home by his mother in the company of his elder sister. However, after some time, he disappeared, and his lifeless body was later found dangling from a branch of a tree behind their house.
According to Morgan's father, Royford Mutembei, the boy did not show any signs of depression, and they were shocked when they were informed of the incident.
Mr. Mutembei stated, 'Their mother left the boy playing with his sister, and could not suspect that such an incident could happen because he looked jovial.'
Chuka Sub County Police Commander Joseph Kavoo launched an investigation to establish the events that led to the young boy's tragic decision.
Mr. Kavoo said, 'This is a rare incidence, and we will thoroughly investigate to establish what pushed such a young boy to take his life.'
Mukuuni chief, Kenneth Murithi, expressed concern over the incident, stating that it was the first of its kind in the area. He urged parents to keenly observe their children's behavior and advise them accordingly.
The body was taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
