November 7, 2019, marked a significant milestone in the career of Fred Machoka, a radio legend who has been entertaining audiences for over four decades.
His journey began in 1975 when he won a radio competition, 'Sanyo Juu Sanyo tops,' and caught the attention of a producer who offered him a chance to pursue a career in broadcasting.
After serving in the General Service Unit (GSU), Machoka resigned in December 1976 and dedicated himself to full-time broadcasting. He went on to host a variety of shows at the Voice of Kenya (VOK), including 'Ever ready Paka Power,' 'Mchanganyiko Maalum,' and 'Sportsman Ni Sawa Hasa.'
With a repertoire of African music, particularly lingala and rumba, Machoka has become a household name. His love for radio and his unique voice have endeared him to fans across the country.
As he reflects on his career, Machoka says, 'I wish I could just stop the world, then play the rewind stop again and then play sit back and watch but life is never a rehearsal we just pass through.'
Today, Machoka is a living legend, and his contributions to the radio industry have earned him a special place in the hearts of Kenyans.
