On Thursday morning, the Kibra by-election got underway amidst allegations of voter bribery and low voter turnout at some polling stations.
Police struggled to pacify an angry mob outside Lindi Mosque polling station after a man, identified as Anunda, was accused of distributing money on behalf of a candidate.
However, eyewitnesses at the mosque disputed the claims, stating that Anunda did not have any money and was not distributing it.
”Wanaangusha mzee chini na huyo mzee hana hata makosa,” one of the witnesses said.
”Mzee Anunda hana pesa anagawa,” another witness added.
Supporters from two rival factions traded accusations of voter bribery and poll sabotage, further complicating the situation.
The by-election has been touted as a high-stakes contest between two front-runners, with the Observation Group raising concerns over the transfer of polling stations the previous day.
